Electric Department Overview:

There are five linemen in the Electrical Department, some with up to 35 plus years experience in linework. They have a vast combined knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution, plus all are very familiar with the Town's system. We have approximately 5,000 electrical customers with three substations and seven 1600KW generators for peak shaving. We have approximately 85 miles of overhead distribution lines and about 10 miles of underground distribution lines. Their job consists of setting and replacing poles, transformers, metering, street lighting, security lighting, new overhead and underground line construction, plus monitoring the flow of electric current. We are constantly making improvements to our system by replacing old wires, poles and equipment. We also have many trees throughout the Town, and we keep a full-time two-man tree trimming crew year round in order to keep power outages to a minimum. At least one person from this department is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year round.
