Hydrant Flushing to Begin 8/4/23

The Town of Forest City is set to begin the hydrant flushing program on Friday, August 4. The flushing will begin around the Trade Street tank at midnight Friday and last until approximately 4:00 AM. Areas on Main Street and streets adjacent to Main Street may be affected. The flushing will begin every Friday at approximately the same time. The flushing program is routine maintenance that helps improve the Town’s water system to provide the highest quality water. Deposits, sediments, and other materials may accumulate in the water pipes over time, resulting in water discoloration, poor water flow, and/or changes in the taste and odor of the water. Flushing the water through the fire hydrants clears accumulated materials and gives the opportunity to verify appropriate water pressure in the hydrants and valves. Residents experiencing discolored water or low water pressure during this time should flush faucets in their home for 5-10 minutes. If the issue persists, call 828-245-0149 to report the problem.
