Online Activities
The Town of Forest City is starting a new weekly series of activities that families can do together - right from the comfort of your own home!
New activities will be posted every Monday, and we invite you to take pictures of your family participating in the activities and share them with us by tagging our page and using the hashtags #ForestCityForCommunity and #FCForCommunity. We will share as many posts as we can! Please invite all of your friends to join in so we can reach as many people as possible! If you cannot post to social media, share your photos with Courtney at courtneyashley@townofforestcity.com.
Don't forget to practice social distancing and wash your hands. We hope you have fun!
HEALTHY KIDS WEEK — 4/27-5/3
The first activity is Healthy Kids Week! There is a different activity each day that promotes physical and mental health and wellness. You can follow our daily themes or build your own activities based on your needs.
PET WEEK — 5/4-5/10
The second week of our virtual summer event series is Pet Week! There is a different activity each day all about man's best friend. You can follow our daily themes or build your own activities based on your needs.
SCIENCE WEEK — 5/11-5/17
The third week of our virtual summer event series is Science Week! There is a different science project each day that you can easily do at home - with materials that you already have around the house! You can follow our daily themes or build your own activities based on your needs. These activities have been modified from the NC SciFest produced by Morehead Planetarium Science Center.
MOTION MONDAY
Conduct an experiment demonstrating a force moving an object and understand Newton's laws of motion and how they apply to racing.
TECH TUESDAY
Learn how computers use data to find patterns which they can use to identify objects.
WATER WEDNESDAY
Explore the properties of soapy water and geometry by blowing bubbles.
TOWER THURSDAY
Explore an engineering concept by using simple building materials to investigate which shapes are the strongest.

It doesn't have to look like an airplane in order to fly! Build different flying machines to experiment with the 4 forces of flight.

Explore how sounds are made by building a noisemaker.

The Public Science Lab at NC State University needs your help with this tasty citizen science project. To make your own sourdough starter, all you need is flour, water and a little bit of time.

This activity is great to teach your kids more about the ocean while sneaking in some shape learning and writing practice too! Vertical surfaces like walls are fantastic for developing proper wrist muscles and form for writing so be innovative and find ways to get your kids writing on the walls... or easels... or white boards... you get the point.

Understand what low and high tides are and how they affect sea life with this simple tide pool science experiment.
