Over 2.5 inches of rain fell in Forest City causing a wastewater spill at the Brackett Creek pump station on November 15, 2018. Estimates are that approximately 7,500 gallons spilled into Brackett Creek. Three septic trucks were contracted and pumped 22 loads @ 2,500 gallons per load to help minimize the spill. The Town takes all wastewater spills very seriously.
The Town contacted the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality on Tuesday. The Town will also follow the required reporting to local media based on NCDEQ guidelines. The principal cause of the spill was storm water inflow and infiltration into manholes that were flooded and resulted in the wastewater lift station overflowing.
